My vision
of the theater

I love doing theater; I fell in love with the world behind the scenes because it allowed me to put my skills as an engineer into practice and my vision of the stage as an artist. I decided to stay in theater because it embodies one of the most important human traits: we are social beings. Playwrights, directors, stage managers, actors, and technical coordinators, we all need each other to create our art and support one another. Theater is not possible with just one person.

I like creating learning spaces for those interested in expanding their knowledge. We can all teach and learn from each other. I believe that being honest with ourselves and with others helps to build a collaborative and friendly work environment, recognizing that no one has all the answers. Each person contributes to the process, and sharing ideas should never be a source of shame. One example of this is that, on many occasions, I cannot say that a design is completely mine, because brainstorming with my team enriches the proposal with bright perspectives that are incorporated into the original idea.

A process of communication
and collaboration

Our art cannot exist without communication. I firmly believe that assertive communication is only possible when there is empathy and trust. As a leader and team member, it is essential for me to share theater as the joyful space it has always been for me. It is also important to recognize that we are human and that not every day is good. Providing support and a space where each person feels comfortable being authentic is key to my leadership style.

Each process in theater is a collective creation; it is always a team effort. Theater is about humans working toward the same purpose, and if I am also part of that purpose, I will do my best to achieve an empathetic and loving process.

How I discovered the world behind the scenes

For a long time, I thought my place in life was on stage, and I wasn't entirely wrong. I started as a dancer at a very young age, but when it came time to choose a career, my curiosity about how certain machines work and what lies behind them led me to pursue engineering. I could never completely leave dance behind; I even thought that would be my profession. Until one day, while waiting for my entrance, I looked up and saw the entire network of pulleys and ropes that make up the theater machinery, and I began to ask all kinds of questions to the technical staff.

Someone suggested a workshop on introductory production and scenic design. My teacher hired me as his lighting assistant at the end of the course, and that is how I began to learn about the artistic work from a different perspective.

Until that moment, all my collaborations had been within dance. I moved to theater when I met the National Theater Company and joined their team as a technical scenery assistant. It was here that I learned the foundations of my current profession and where, for the first time, I was able to combine engineering with the stage.

After that, I collaborated as a scenery assistant, lighting, theatrical engineering, production, props, and prompt support with various companies and designers. In my desire to learn more and explore different ways of working, I searched for study options abroad, and that’s how I arrived at Yale University, the only one I found with the specialization I had been looking for so long, in addition to being accessible by granting me a full scholarship.

I am currently in my last semester and I look forward to applying and sharing all the knowledge I have acquired.

Constanza after a run

Outside of work

I love going for a run and exercising; I always discover new and beautiful landscapes that astonish me, even though I have taken the same route several times.

I enjoy both classic and less classic literature.

I experienced snow in my first year of graduate school, and every winter I still get excited.

There is always a little space for chocolate after a meal.

I like going out dancing with my friends.

I am the aunt of the puppies, I don't have pets but I adopt all of my friends' pets and I am the happiest taking care of them when their human parents are not around.
